Current status of antidiabetic plants in the Lamiaceae family

The plant kingdom provides several options for alternative treatment of diseases. Several phytoconstituents from plant origin have been extensively studied and developed into drugs which are widely accepted. The Lamiaceae is a family of plant frequently cited for their antidiabetic and hypoglycemic properties. They contain biologically active compounds. Here, the current status of antidiabetic and hypoglycemic plants, phytochemicals and active principles of the Lamiaceae are discussed.
